I dig this cape hard. That turquoise stripe against the neutral is so GOOD. That dog she’s toting I could take or leave.
One of our favorite designers, Dusen Dusen, is collaborating with one of my favorite girls, Erin Wylie, on a collection of handmade coats under the name—wait for it—Dusen Wylie. That blue stripe? It’s house paint. And it’s killer. —erica

Of a Kind: Known Entities: Andrew Jackson
My business partner is a little bit bananas. Please do Napoleon next, Erica.

If the seventh president had appeared on the cover of a men’s magazine (as he surely would have if anything of the sort had existed in his day), his personal style would have certainly been addressed. Because the guy’s look was standout—dark, austere, and a little rock-and-roll, in a Lou Reed

I’m liking this 20x200 edition by Alexander Beeching. I thought the post-McQueen onslaught/oversaturation of his signature skulls had ruined them for me, but this is a fresh take.
Also reminds me of all of the skeletal jewelry we’ve been posting on Of a Kind recently.

I wish I was still naive enough to blog recklessly, because I had a neat dream about Jay-Z last night.

SO HERE’S MY PROPOSITION:
You’re a female entrepreneur who needs mentors or advisors? Send me a description of your company and a resume.
You’re someone who’s willing to mentor a female entrepreneur (regardless of your gender) and you have entrepreneurial experience? Do the same.
My email is espiers AT gmail. I can only take ten companies for launch school, but this is more scalable.
I’ll play matchmaker, one by one. It’s a hell of a lot more useful to female entrepreneurs than sitting on a panel complaining that there aren’t more of you sitting on a panel.—
I think eventually Elizabeth is going to combine all of these programs into the Spiers School of Entrepreneur Nurturedom…to be housed at Duke University. Get at it while the tuition is still

All I (want to) wear in fall and winter is sheath and tunic dresses with tights and boots. Perhaps a belt here and there. Aside from the price tags these Michael Angel dresses will fit my uniform formula JUST FINE.

Dead on.

Maybe we would be more interesting if we idolized Gina or Debra, but it was Empire Records’s f-ed up overachiever (played by Liv Tyler) who hit home. Plus, she really knew how to work a cropped sweater, and that seems seasonally appropriate.

Mohair (which Phillip Lim is all about…

If we were chic seventies art teachers, we would fill our macramé-adorned closets with Chris Benz’s spring collection. And we would straighten our hair with the aid of orange-juice cans.

Sometimes I start to doubt whether or not I have any business getting into fashion as a profession. Then I am emailed a picture like this—Grandma Shirley wearing some Marni like it’s no big D—and I’m reminded that I have this woman’s genes inside of me, and I’ll probably be okay.
Grandma Shirley also emailed me a link to that Victoria Beckham article in Sunday Styles today. Not sure what interest she thought I might have in it, but I think she was just trying to drive home the fact that she stays in the know about style.
