programming notes
Even though I keep telling myself (and sometimes others) that I am going to switch over to Wordpress or something with a little more wiggle room, I went ahead and installed comments on my Tumblr anyway. Which means I’ll probably keep this thing around a little longer. I really like Tumblr, particularly the design aesthetic, and this being an arts-centric blog, I thought that was a pretty good justification for choosing to use it. I also enjoy the community aspect of Tumblr—it is good motivation to keep blogging, because I know others are reading and I feel like I’m contributing to a conversation rather than spouting a monologue.
My biggest (and perhaps only) problem with Tumblr is not being able to post more than one image in an entry—I know there is, in theory, some way to go about this, but when I’ve tried, I’ve failed. I’ve been wanting to write a post about an exhibition I saw recently, but wanted to include multiple images and reference them individually—something that would be difficult on Tumblr.
My father, who probably makes up about 1/5 of my readers, does not really get the “tumbling” aspect of it…that is, he doesn’t like when I post a picture or a link or a quote and don’t explain it. This is sort of “the way” with tumblogs, and even though I think he doesn’t get it because he doesnt read so many blogs, I do think sometimes the format makes me a little lazy. I post a picture I like without formulating an argument as to why I like it, or why I hate it, or why I think it’s relevant. Probably this leads me to post a number of things that simply aren’t relevant at all.
SO, I think I will keep this blog, but also try to maintain a more WORDY blog over at WORDpress. I imagine this blog will serve more of a curatorial function, where I collect images and articles I find interesting, sort of like a scrapbook. Sometimes it’s nice to just post something and not have to explain it. The other blog will be more original content. I’m unemployed momentarily, so I don’t think it should be too much of a challenge to maintain both (though one might argue I barely maintain this one as it is). Really, who knows what will happen. (I ought to be writing cover letters instead of blog posts anyway.)
So, clairemazur.wordpress.com. Bookmark it, but maybe don’t go there quite yet, I haven’t really done anything with it. In the meantime, go ahead and leave some comments here.
