I looooved fashion magazines when I was younger. I was particularly enamored of Harper’s Bazaar while Liz Tilberis was at the helm. I sharpened my drawing skills and nurtured hopes of becoming a famous fashion designer by copying the editorials in my sketchbook. Since then my career aspirations have been tempered by reality and a limited skill set, but I still get excited about a good fashion editorial. Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now, an exhibition at the International Center of Photography piqued my interest because of the mix of expected photographers (Juergen Teller, Steven Klein) with photographers who I hadn’t realized had delved into fashion (Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin). Who knew that Nan Goldin is a regular contributor to a German children’s fashion magazine?
