Noah Birksted-Breen: Russian theatre is on the cusp of a new golden age | Stage | guardian.co.uk
This is very interesting: Theatre is one of the few (only?) mediums in Russia yet to be infiltrated by Putin’s regime…as a result, young Russian playwrights have been churning out politically-charged plays that overtly challenge the current administration. Noah Birksted-Breen writes that theatre is “the sole public medium in Russia where total freedom of expression still exists”. He theorizes that the reason the Russian government has yet to stick their tentacles in the discipline is because not enough people are actually attending the theatre for them to worry.
