Trust Art: A Stock Market for Art Projects
So many aspects of this project leave a bad taste in my mouth, especially this:
“At the end of the year, the artwork gets auctioned off, at a price set by the combined social capital of all its investors.”
The suggestion that the value of an artwork is or should be determined by the social standing of the people who support it…that may very well be the case in the current art market, but to have it realized in such a literal way doesn’t make me feel any better about it.
